Recharter 2024
The annual recharter process began Monday, October 2nd.   Once again, the process is completely online, available at Internet Advancement.    The goal is for units to accurately complete all online recharter work by Friday, December 15th.

Change to BSA's unit charter process will require any unit with incomplete charters, after January 1 will need to restart the process and switch membership over to the new model.

A GGAC eNews was previously sent about the National & GGAC Program Fees.  Complete fee information can be found on the GGAC website.

GGAC’s YPT policy is stricter than the National BSA policy.  We require all registered adults to have a valid YPT certificate for the entire registration period (through December 31, 2024).  Therefore, most adults must retake YPT before they are eligible to recharter with their unit.

The State of California passed AB506, which took effect on January 1, 2022.   In 2023 the State updated the policy such that the Mandated Reporter training must be retaken every two years.  In addition, the state has a new higher quality version of the training.  This new training can be accessed from the California Scouting website.

The GGAC Executive Board has decided to treat this Mandated Reporter training like YPT; we require all adults to have a valid Mandated Reporter certificate for the entire registration period (through December 31, 2024).  Therefore, most adults must retake Mandated Reporter training before they are eligible to recharter with their unit.

We will continue manually creating and posting reports from various online data sources showing YPT & AB506 status.  We expect to update the reports approximately every two weeks.  The most recent set is always available on Dropbox.

More information about, training, or your district recharter manager, can be found on the GGAC website Recharter Resources page.

Help Close the Gap

We're still $20,000 short of our goal. Support the scouts in our district and ensure the continuation of the programs and camps your family loves.

Understanding Friends of Scouting - Isn't the Annual Council Annual Fee Enough?

The straightforward answer: No.

The annual fees, while essential, don't cover everything. They're not enough to maintain our programs, provide financial support to underprivileged youth, keep our camps running, manage insurance costs, and, crucially, compensate our dedicated staff. The true expense of offering these services amounts to approximately $300 per youth, a figure that exceeds the $68 Council annual fee. Your contribution to the 2023 Friends of Scouting is what helps bridge this gap.

Supporting the Mission Peak District Goal

This year, our target for the Mission Peak District is to raise $55,000 through the Friends of Scouting donations. Here's how you can contribute:
  • Donate Here: Every dollar plays a part. Consider making a recurring donation – $5, $10, $20, or even $100 per month. Whatever works with your budget is deeply appreciated.
  • Unit Base Donations: Offer your support during "Ask Events" within your Packs, Troops, or Ships. If there's no scheduled event, Brian Putt is available to assist.
  • Spread the Word: Do you know people passionate about scouting? Share, or a snapshot of the QR code below to introduce them to the Mission Peak Friends of Scouting.
  • Matching Donations: Does your employer match your charitable contributions? Let us know! And if you're awaiting a Donation Confirmation letter from the Council, reach out to Fernanda Ruiz
  • Engage the Business Community: Do you know small businesses or civic organizations that would financially support our district? Are you a business owner or have a say in charities donations? Contact Brian Putt or Fernanda Ruiz
Thank you for supporting Scouting!
