Our Scout Family is mourning the loss of Little Leo Grigorev & the family needs your help!
You may have heard in the news at the end of last week about a 2-year-old that was struck by an SUV in a Fremont shopping plaza parking lot, who then later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. When the last name of the victim was released, our hearts immediately sank - it was a familiar yet unique name, one that was on our Fremont Pack 176 roster; Leonid Grigorev, one of the younger brothers of one of our Webelos scouts, Tatiana.

Like many other scouting units, our pack is very close to each other, and our hearts were collectively broken. Pack 176 has sprung into immediate action and organized food drop-offs for their family, as well as setting up a crowd-funding website to support them. Their family has been going through some financial struggles the last 6 months, and we were hoping that this would be a way to help ease some of the unimaginable pain they are already going through.

CALL TO ACTION !!!! Fellow Scouters, this Scouting family could really use our help! If it is possible, please reach out and help raise some money to help them through this troubled time.

Their family could really use the support from the scout community. Please take a moment and reach out to this family in pain and see what the extended scout community can do to help.

BSA has updated its Barriers to Abuse policies.
These changes affect adult participation in general along with new provisions for Cub Scout Camping specifically.

Following are excerpts of the changes and source links for each. Included also is a clickable link to a presentation.

Two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over are required at all Scouting activities, including all meetings. There must be a registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over in every unit serving females. Also, a registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over must be present for any activity involving female youth or female adult program participants. More information . . .

All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered as an adult volunteer or an adult program participant. Adult volunteers must register in the position(s) they are serving in. Registration as a merit badge counselor position does not meet this requirement. Limited exception below for Cub Scout overnight Programs. Check out these FAQs . . .

Cub Scout Programs – Overnight Exception: Cub Scout parents or legal guardians taking part in an overnight Cub Scout program with their own child or legal ward are not required to register as leaders. All adults must review the “How to Protect your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide” that can be found in the front of each Cub Scout Handbook. In addition, the parent or legal guardian must be accompanied by a registered leader at any time they are with youth members other than their own child/ward. All other overnight adults must be currently registered in an adult fee required position.

Help Close the Gap

We're still $20,000 short of our goal. Support the scouts in our district and ensure the continuation of the programs and camps your family loves.

Understanding Friends of Scouting - Isn't the Annual Council Annual Fee Enough?

The straightforward answer: No.

The annual fees, while essential, don't cover everything. They're not enough to maintain our programs, provide financial support to underprivileged youth, keep our camps running, manage insurance costs, and, crucially, compensate our dedicated staff. The true expense of offering these services amounts to approximately $300 per youth, a figure that exceeds the $68 Council annual fee. Your contribution to the 2023 Friends of Scouting is what helps bridge this gap.

Supporting the Mission Peak District Goal

This year, our target for the Mission Peak District is to raise $55,000 through the Friends of Scouting donations. Here's how you can contribute:
  • Donate Here: Every dollar plays a part. Consider making a recurring donation – $5, $10, $20, or even $100 per month. Whatever works with your budget is deeply appreciated.
  • Unit Base Donations: Offer your support during "Ask Events" within your Packs, Troops, or Ships. If there's no scheduled event, Brian Putt is available to assist.
  • Spread the Word: Do you know people passionate about scouting? Share, or a snapshot of the QR code below to introduce them to the Mission Peak Friends of Scouting.
  • Matching Donations: Does your employer match your charitable contributions? Let us know! And if you're awaiting a Donation Confirmation letter from the Council, reach out to Fernanda Ruiz
  • Engage the Business Community: Do you know small businesses or civic organizations that would financially support our district? Are you a business owner or have a say in charities donations? Contact Brian Putt or Fernanda Ruiz
Thank you for supporting Scouting!

Webeloree 2023 - September IS SOLD OUT

October still has limited space available

Webeloree 2023 - Last weekends in September/October

Calling all those who will be Webelos & Arrows of Light in October 2023

This weekend is filled with fun events at our great Camp Herms. Activity Pins and Scout Skills galore. Come interact with some Scouts, BSA Troops to get a feel for the adventure at a Troop level. We will offer a rotation-style event, where the Patrols of Scouts will travel to program areas and complete their Adventure.

This is intended for a 1:1 Cub to Guardian ratio weekend. We understand if one guardian must take two Cub Scouts, which is more than acceptable! This guardian will be responsible for each participant while they are at camp. This event is for Webelos and Arrows of Light only as the program is specific to their age-appropriate program. A packing list, schedule, and Pins for the weekend will be emailed ten days before the event.

Every participant should bring a bag lunch on Saturday. Dinner will be provided as a group activity. Sunday breakfast is offered. You will be camping, so make sure to bring your essentials, including a mess kit for meals. Please only attend this event if you plan to camp! If you are only arriving for the day, you are keeping the opportunity for another Scout and their adult partner to camp overnight. Pins and patches are included in the price and will only be handed out on Sunday to those who stay overnight.

Questions? Contact Camp Director Tracy Peters (pacificflyer1@gmail.com). For Registration information and link, please click below. Golden Gate Area Council - Webeloree 2023 (scoutingevent.com)
