Remembering our Great Scout Leader

Michael Weavil

Remembering our Great Scout Leader Michael Weavil
It is with a heavy heart that we would like to note that a Mission Peak scouter, Mr. Michael Weavil passed away on Jun 26, 2023. Mike was a very active scouter, helping scouts with countless merit badges, sponsoring Troop 2110, and being an ASM at Troop 110. His wife Christine Weavil has been a very active scouter too, and his two sons Nicholas and Benjamin have gone through the full scouting journey and are at Eagle rank or targeting to reach Eagle Scout this year.

He will be remembered by the Toop 110 and 2110 families and the Mission Peak district.

Fundraising Opportunity for scouts/troops that is interested!

Fundraising Opportunity for scouts/troops that is interested!
Troop 448 sold subscriptions to neighborhood residents for about $50 per year for the troop to put up a US flag in the front yard of families on 6 holidays during the year.
  • President’s Day
  • Flag Day
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day or 9/11
Troop members would put up the flag early the morning and take down the flags before dark in the evening.

The troop would store the flags and replace flags as the flags wore out. The flags are mounted on 10’ long 1/2” electrical pipe conduit.

The troop would ask the resident where they wanted the flag to be located and would then drive a steel rod in the ground and then remove the steel rod and place a 2’ long PVC pipe in the hole and leave the PVC pipe permanently in the ground so that the flag could be easily placed and removed.

It does require commitment of families to organize the placement and removal of the flags every flag day.

Generally subscription residents really liked the regular flag placements.

The financial reward is great for those scouts who need to fund their scout camp or other scouting activities. If a Scout has 10 subscriptions for the year then at $50 per subscription, they have raised about $500 which funds scout camp and a few other scouting activities.

Mission Peak Cub Scout Day Camp was a huge success!
All of the Cub Scouts had a rootin' tootin' good time at the Wild West themed Cub Scout Day Camp this year! Over 80 scouts with over 40 volunteers got to do amazing activities such as campfire cooking, fun arts & crafts, bird watching hikes, helping the animals at the farm, learning about safety during the fun adventure on the Oregon Trail, detective games at the STEM station, and last but not least, cowboy games at the game station, leatherworking activities thanks to Tandy Leather in Fremont!

A huge thank you to all the adult and youth volunteers who came out and volunteered to make this great event such a big success! All of the little westerners had a blast!

The Passing of Ray Weaver, a Great Scout Leader in our Community

The Passing of Ray Weaver, a Great Scout Leader in our Community
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of one of the most dedicated Scouters in Bay Area history. Mr. Ray Weaver, has Gone Home. Ray held many positions in Scouting including Council Commissioner, however, he was best known for his over 40 years of service teaching archery to Cub Scouts and for his leadership over Troop 2, the oldest troop in the East Bay, chartered to California School of the Blind. He was preceded in death by his beloved Jeanette who was by his side and formed the other half of this famous Scouting power couple.

Thank you for what you have done, Mr. Ray Weaver. May your arrow fly straight and true.
