4/28 & 4/29 - Memorial Services for our Fallen BSA Scout, Blake Mohs
Mission Peak Scouters,

Blake Mohs, one of our Mission Peak Eagles from Troop 176 and Explorer Post 467 was killed last week when attempting to stop a theft at the Pleasanton Home Depot. Blake worked as the loss prevention employee at the site. Blake earned his Eagle Scout Rank on May 20, 2014 in Troop 176. He worked for several years in the Diamond R Corral at Camp Royaneh where he was known as ‘DK.’ As an adult he continued his lifelong passion for Scouting by volunteering for as many Cub Scout weekend camping events as possible.

A Candlelight Vigil at the GGAC office in Pleasanton 7:30 Friday evening. I know that traveling over the Sunol Grade on I-680 on Friday can be a challenge.

His formal service will be this Saturday, April 29th at 11:00am at Fremont Community Church 39700 Mission Blvd. Fremont, CA 94539. I spoke with Sergeant Sal Sandoval of Newark PD this morning and Scouts in uniform are invited to join the police officers in a tribute to Blake as he enters the church. The family is expecting a large turnout for the service.

Upon arrival, Scouts should look for the officer directing other officers and the public and will be told where to line up.

Thank you all for your help in getting the word out and gathering Scouting support for Blake and his family.

NYLT - June 11-17, 2023 - Registration: 75% Full so sign-up as soon as possible!
Registration for NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) is open. The course is now 75% filled as of March 29.  We expect the course to be full by May 1. Now is the time to look at registering. Scouts must be 13 or older and 1st Class at the start of the course. They also need to discuss their participation with their Scoutmaster before registering and get approval.

NYLT, the premier youth training course for personal development, is youth-led and simulates one month in the life of youth-led scouting. Scouts will develop valuable skills for activity planning and communicating with others. They and their patrol will learn and complete activities working towards a vision of success. Scouts are divided up into patrols, boys in all-boy troops lead by boy staff members and girls in all-girl troops lead by girl staff members.

GGAC offers two sessions yearly, a small one in February and the larger session in June. The June course does accept more than 2 Scouts per unit, unlike the February NYLT.

For more information on NYLT and to register, visit the NYLT Webpage.
