NYLT - June 11-17, 2023 - Registration: 75% Full so sign-up as soon as possible!

NYLT - June 11-17, 2023 - Registration: 75% Full so sign-up as soon as possible!
Registration for NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) is open. The course is now 75% filled as of March 29.  We expect the course to be full by May 1. Now is the time to look at registering. Scouts must be 13 or older and 1st Class at the start of the course. They also need to discuss their participation with their Scoutmaster before registering and get approval.

NYLT, the premier youth training course for personal development, is youth-led and simulates one month in the life of youth-led scouting. Scouts will develop valuable skills for activity planning and communicating with others. They and their patrol will learn and complete activities working towards a vision of success. Scouts are divided up into patrols, boys in all-boy troops lead by boy staff members and girls in all-girl troops lead by girl staff members.

GGAC offers two sessions yearly, a small one in February and the larger session in June. The June course does accept more than 2 Scouts per unit, unlike the February NYLT.

For more information on NYLT and to register, visit the NYLT Webpage.

Mission Peak Scout Night at the San Jose Sharks game was a blast!

Mission Peak Scout Night at the San Jose Sharks game was a blast!

Over 120 of our Mission Peak District scouts and their families came to the Mission Peak San Jose Sharks night at the SAP Center! Everyone enjoyed watching the San Jose Sharks compete against the New York Islanders on the ice. There were many laughs and giggles while at the game, watching the funny videos and competitions on the big screen.

At the end of the night, we were invited to come down to the ice and take our group picture together! A huge thank you to Cameron Karkosa with the San Jose Sharks for helping us organize this fun family event. Please feel free to contact him at ckarkoska@sjsharks.com for any future group events with the Sharks!

Results from Spring Camporee are here!

Results from Spring Camporee are here!
Mission Peak conducted a successful youth run Spring Camporee March 17-19 at Rancho Los Mochos.  There were 20 troops, 41 patrols, 262 participants and 68 Scouters with the troops that competed in 16 events led by the youth staff of about 40 senior scouts. The JASM for the Staff Scouts was Mr Soumajit Saha from troop 379 who organized the events with his Staff Scouts from multiple troops.   The staff scouts were supported by a number of adults to advise them led by Mr. Lee Amon and Tom Kacinski.  Both the scouts and the scouters liked having the senior scouts organize and run the events.   Congratulations to the Staff Scouts for a momentous event!!!!

Troop 176 was the Overall Winner taking several first-place awards in events. The weather was great on Saturday with sprinkles on Sunday during flags and presentation of the ribbons.

The Staff Youth and adult staff were served delicious meals at the Commissary by Mr. Kacinski and his cook staff and camped in Blue Oak. In contrast the troops in Manzanita prepared food in their campsites. A desert dutch oven competition was held, better known as the Golden Spoon.   There were two first place winners:
  • Troop 186 with a Cinnamon Roll made all from scratch!
  • Troop 155 with a Monkey Bread Pie!
Our hope is to hold the next camporee led by another group of Senior Scouts giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership ability.
