5/23 - Mission Peak District Rant & Rave Social Mixer
Are you having problems keeping scouts off their electronics? Having difficulties getting unit parents to volunteer? Having problems coming up with activities for your scouts to do?

THURSDAY, MAY 23, 2024 FROM 6PM TO 8PM

SWISS PARK BAR & GRILL, 5911 MOWRY AVENUE IN NEWARK

If so, you are officially invited to this end-of-year mixer for all scout leaders and volunteers to come out and chat with other leaders about what their difficulties are, what is not working and share what is working in your unit!

This is a perfect opportunity to exchange ideas or share a cheer with other leaders in our difficulties and successes! There will be a complete menu with vegetarian options and full bar so don’t wear your scout uniform and come out and share your story with others! You might get some suggestions on how to fix your problems!

Volunteers are needed at the Cub Scout Day Camp!

Do you like to do fun activities? Are you looking for great volunteer hours? Do you enjoy seeing little Cub Scouts have tons of fun?

We are currently looking for youth and adult volunteers to help out with the Mission Peak Cub Scout Day Camp during June 10-14, 2024 at Ardenwood Farm. We provide morning donuts and afternoon snacks for our volunteers as well as a great surprise on Friday. If interested, reach out to Jonathan Leder at jonathan@followtheleder.com on how to sign up.

Get Ready for an Exciting New Chapter in Scouting with AdvanceCamp!

Get Ready for an Exciting New Chapter in Scouting with AdvanceCamp!
The Golden Gate Area Council (GGAC) and AdvanceCamp, Inc. are thrilled to announce their merger, following unanimous votes by both boards. This strategic alliance will see AdvanceCamp forming a new committee within our GGAC Program committees, ensuring the annual AdvanceCamp event continues to thrive and grow.

Mark your calendars for the 24th AdvanceCamp, taking place on September 27-28, 2024 at the Solano County Fairgrounds. The event attracts Scouts from across California and Nevada, and this merger promises to expand our reach even further.

Since its inception in 1998, AdvanceCamp has served over 30,000 Scouts, providing a platform for them to complete partials for unusual merit badges. The event has grown from 300 Scouts and 15 merit badges to a major annual gathering, thanks to the tireless efforts of Steve Hoagland, the Executive Director of AdvanceCamp.

Registration for AdvanceCamp opens in early June, with more details about this year’s event coming soon.

5/4 - San Francisco Bike Rodeo Day! Come roll with us!

5/4 - San Francisco Bike Rodeo Day! Come roll with us!
Come to our San Francisco Bike Rodeo! We are excited to partner with the California Highway Patrol, San Francisco Fire Department and many more agencies for this event. At this event youth will:
  1. Learn important bike safety lessons - including how to navigate traffic, use hand signals and ride safely on San Francisco's streets and bikeways.
  2. Have their bike and helmet inspected - mechanics will be on-hand to help scouts adjust their helmets to a proper fit, and inspect their bikes for any safety concerns.
  3. Go for a short bike ride - we'll take the kids (and family members!) on a short bike ride around the Embarcadero, using the protected bike lanes and shared paths.
  4. We will have a special Golden Gate Area Council Bike Rodeo Activity Patch for those that complete an activity!
If you want to get your youth more comfortable with biking in a group, this is the perfect event!

Attendees should bring: Bike, Bike Helmet, Water Bottle, Snack, Sunscreen, Hand sanitizer

Don't have a bike or are unable to bring one to the event? Let us know! During the registration you'll see a question about needing to borrow a bike; we will work to accomodate all requests and let you know ahead of time if we were able to. Earlier registrants will have priority!

This is a free event open to scout and non-scout youth from ages 5 to 17! Those involved in scouting are invited to wear their uniform for this event. To register, click on the following link - Golden Gate Area Council - San Francisco Bike Rodeo 2024 (scoutingevent.com)

Paddlesports 2024 Learning Opportunity!

HIGH ADVENTURE TEAM PRESENTS:

PADDLESPORTS 2024

Wish you could provide your unit a new adventure?

Something a little wild, something a little mild something a little too much fun???

TRY PADDLING!!!

This course provides the basics in planning and canoe handling for the novice or the experienced paddler enthusiast. The course covers how to plan in detail a safe event for your unit on the water, including such adventures as the Northern Tier, Boundary Waters, Lower Grand Canyon or local waters such as the American, the Russian or the Sacramento Rivers.

NEVER PADDLED BEFORE??? Fear not, we can get you down the river with confidence based upon the skills developed at our outdoor session. We begin with flatwater basic canoe control. In the afternoon me move to coordinated maneuvers between bow and stern paddlers. Safety and rescue are included in the event of a spill. River reading –the sense of how the river will move downstream giving you clues on where you should-or should not-be with the canoe will be highlighted. Evening session close the day with immersion hypothermia, shuttle logistics and paddling demonstration videos.

RIVER FUN-On Sunday we relocate from flat water to moving water along the American River. We begin by experimenting with eddy turns and ferries. Once we have these under our belt, we move downriver and play along the river catching each feature we can. Importantly, we practice how to rescue a paddler who has fallen out of his boat. We conclude the event with scouting the San Juan Rapid and running it with confidence. If you wish, you can run it again and again.

Indoor: May 8th from 7-9:30PM at the Council Office (if small group, Clayton, CA)

Outdoor: June 1-2nd at Folsom Lake SRA .

Indoor: June 5 from 7-9PM at the Council Office (if small group, Clayton, CA)
