Keep up-to-date with the latest Mission Peak District Events

Mission Peak District has two awesome communication channels to bring you relevant scouting information when you need it and help you connect with your community of local Scouters   Adult leaders can join the MPD Adult Leader Slack Workspace, and  SPLs/ASPL and youth in charge of a district event can Join MDP SPL Discord Server https://discord.gg/Wz94DjaP   The Discord invitation link  will  expire on February 26. If you have a youth leader that needs a new invite, please contact Lee Amon@pacbell.net or via Slack

The Slack workspace is for all adults involved in scouting.  Please keep the space to 18 years and older so that we can maintain YPT.   In the slack workspace you can get the latest information about upcoming events and training, and you can ask a comm questions about scouting.   Slack can run in any browser but most users recommend downloading the free app available on all platforms. When you join you will be automatically subscribed to three channels: 0-Announcements 1-Scouts BSA Troops, and 2- Cub Scout Packs.   We recommend that you browse for other channels of interest, such as channels for specific event or activities.

SPLs and ASPLs can join Discord.   This is where senior youth leaders for district level events can communicate directly with youth leaders in the units.  It is heavily used near camporee, indoor rally, and other district events.    SPLs can connect with SPLs from other troops.   The MPD SPL Discord Server is open to adults registered in the BSA.   We ask that you identify yourself as an adult.

This will expire on February 26.   Mr. Amon can issue a new link if needed.

4/7 - GGAC Eagle Recognition Event in downtown Pleasanton

Golden Gate Bridge with Golden Gate Area Eagle Class of 2023
As a Scouts BSA Leader we want to thank you for helping 490 young men and women achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in 2023! It's truly a remarkable accomplishment, and we couldn't be prouder.

On Wednesday, we sent 2023 Eagles an email formally inviting them to the Eagle Scout Recognition event being held in their honor on April 7th in Pleasanton. We understand that even Eagle Scouts may miss important emails, so we also wanted to ensure you were informed.

The event will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Veterans Memorial Building in downtown Pleasanton. We're grateful for the support of individuals and companies who believe in the value of Scouting and the achievement of Eagle Scouts, making it possible for our Council's Eagle Scouts to attend at no cost.

At the Eagle Recognition event, we'll be celebrating the 2023 Eagle Scout Class, but also acknowledging recent achievements within our Scouting community. This includes recognizing recipients of the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA), highlighting the Council’s Eagle Service Project of the Year, and honoring recent recipients of the NESA Silver Wreath Award.

Eagle Scouts can register at scoutingevent.com using a password already sent to them and their parents in a similar email

We want to invite you to join us in celebrating this significant milestone. Guest tickets are available online for $25 each ($35 after 3/10).

Friends of Scouts are scheduling Presentations with your Unit soon!

Friends of Scouts are scheduling Presentations with your Unit soon!
Our goal for the 2024 Friends of Scouting program is to ensure every scout and their family has the opportunity to contribute to the campaign to support Scouting. To motivate the units, the council will reward those units that achieve their predetermined FOS fundraising goals with free rank advancement patches from the GGAC scout shop for the year 2024. The financial goals are tailored to each unit, based on your registration numbers as of February 2024 and your historical contributions. I am happy to share these specific goals with you, either during our presentation or beforehand. Additionally, there are more benefits and rewards to look forward to.

We are inviting each unit to schedule a presentation at their convenience, whether it be in February, March, April, or later in the year. The sooner you achieve your FOS goal the sooner you can claim your patches. Please take a moment to review your unit's calendar and provide us with a suitable date, time, and contact person. You can submit this information through the Google Form linked below. Your participation is invaluable, and we look forward to your support in making the 2024 Friends of Scouting program a success.

If you would like to discuss ahead of time, please reach out to me.   Prior to the presentation we will send you a PPT file to share with all the parents.   This can include your Goal for the unit.

Thank you for your early response.   You will probably also receive a call from Fernanda Ruiz or Don Uriu asking about the date.   But if you respond to the Google Form, it will make everything much more efficient. We really appreciate your support to the Friends of Scouting Campaign.

Gardening and Weeding opportunity available to Scouts for Service Hours

Gardening and Weeding opportunity available to Scouts for Service Hours
There is a woman who has a disabled sister who lives in a house where the property has cropped up a lot of weeds.  They are not tall but there are many weeds on the lawn. Her gardener has recently retired and she can no longer get down and pull them so she has reached out to the Scouts for assistance for help for her elderly sister.

The sister doesn't own a lawnmower but they are going to ask a neighbor if he would mind running his mower over her small lawn.  They are only concerned with the visible weeds, not the ones hidden under bushes and such.  After that, they plan to spray and hopefully they won't come back and we will be able to maintain it.

If you have a scout or a group of scouts interested in service hours, please reach out to Sue Marinucci at smarinucci@sbcglobal.net
