Almost Full - Register Now for April/May Acorn - The Premier Adult Leader Training

Only a few slots left. Register Now!

Every Youth Deserves a Trained Leader.

Acorn is the nickname Mission Peak gives to the combination of a few courses highly recommended by national. These courses are required for Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, and Assistant Cubmasters. They are highly recommended for any and all Adults Leaders in Packs, Troops, & Crews.
  1. S24 - Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training (SMPST ) introduces you to everything you need to know about running a Scouts BSA Troop, which is different from a Cub Scout Pack. In particular, you and your fellow adult leaders are now in more of a “mentor” position where your job is to help your youth members learn and practice leadership. While this training will not answer every single question you have, it is a great start.
  2. S11 - Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) gives adult leaders the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts to learn outdoor skills. The skills presented closely follow the Boy Scout Handbook and rank advancement requirements. All the skills from Tenderfoot to First Class are covered in this training. This is a required training course for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. It is also encouraged for anyone who will be participating on campouts regularly to consider taking this class. The training is designed to help all adult leaders regardless of experience level feel comfortable performing and supervising these skills with youth.
  3. C32 - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for units interested in offering a camping component to their Pack activities. This training consists of an online prerequisite component, plus an in-person overnight camping experience that provides hands-on practical skills. BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies are taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units conduct a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
These courses are taught over two weekends. The first weekend is in Fremont. The second weekend is "on the hill" out at Rancho Los Mochos (RLM) near Livermore.
  1. Sat 4/30 8:00 am - 5:00 pm S24 SMPST is may be taken as a stand-alone course at Kennedy High School in Fremont. However, we recommend you combine it with the IOLS or BALOO
  2. Sun 5/1 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. S11 IOLS & C32 BALOO begin with classroom work at the Fremont Elks Lodge.
  3. Fri 5/13 - Sun 5/15 S11 IOLS & C32 BALOO finish with the outdoor portion at Rancho Los Mochos near Livermore.
Registration is open for all classes:
  1. S24 SMPST - Early registration is $35.00. Registration after 4/15 is $45.00. Prerequisites: Youth Protection Training (taken since May 1, 2020). Register & Pay Online: https://scoutingevent.com/023-MPACORNSPRING2022COURSE1#
  2. S11 IOLS & C32 BALOO - Early registration is $55.00. Registration after 3/31 is $65.00. Prerequisite: Youth Protection Training (taken since May 26, 2020). Register & Pay Online: https://scoutingevent.com/023-MPACORNSPRING2022COURSE2

Scoutbook Change Affects Eagle Application

Scoutbook Change Affects Eagle Application

The Situation

On April 6, 2022, Scoutbook received an update that added Citizenship in Society as a required Merit Badge for Eagle Rank. This Scoutbook update has caused some confusion as Citizenship in Society is not an Eagle-required merit badge until July 1st, 2022. Anyone who turns in a completed Eagle Application before 12:00 am on July 1, 2022, is not required to complete the Citizenship in Society merit badge.

The Issue

As of April 6th, all Scouts who have not completed the Eagle Rank (overall completion does not have a date in Scoutbook) have had their rank switched to the 2022 version. All completed requirements, except Requirement 3, have been migrated from the 2016 version to the 2022 version. Requirement 3 refers to the 21 merit badges needed for the rank of Eagle Scout and how many of them are required.

The Solution

5/12 Adult Leader/Parent Mixer at Swiss Park with LiveScan Opportunity

5/12 Adult Leader/Parent Mixer at Swiss Park with LiveScan Opportunity

Join us for the Official "Unofficial" Mission Peak Adult Leader/Parents Mixer at Swiss Park

Sometimes our parents and leaders have a lot of questions or don't know who they can reach out to so the Mission Peak District has purposely put together the official "non-official" mixer on Thursday, May 12th at Swiss Park Grill in Newark from 5 pm-7 pm. This is a chance for you to enjoy a drink and get to chat with other leaders and parents from other Packs/Troops/Crews and get to have your questions answered. This social setting will be tons of fun and a great way to kick off the summer vacation.

Sign up for LiveScan

We are also planning to have a LiveScan mobile fingerprinting booth that will help you finalize your AB506 Manditated Reporting requirement. See our LiveScan Post in order to signup in advance for LiveScan. For more information, please reach out to Eve at Eve.M.Ruhlman@gmail.com
