Help Needed for RLM Road Renovation Project

Rancho Los Mochos Road Renovation Project
Rancho Los Mochos has been a favorite camp for many scouts and adult leaders for over half a decade. Various Troops and Packs use the facility throughout the year for Camporees, Webelorees, Shooting sports, NYLT, unit-level camping, adult leader position training, and Woodbadge. The paved road leading up to the camp has deteriorated due to water damages, ground movement, and traffic. This has led to inconvenient entry into the camp especially when driving low clearance vehicles.

Adult leaders from Troop 132 Fremont are organizing a service project to fix the road leading up to the entrance. We are reaching out for help and donations to complete the project before the end of February 2022. We will break down and remove parts of the old paved road, lay down a stable base, compact, lay the gravel, and install culverts to divert water away from the road. Mr. Jaime Guerra (ASM, T132) will be donating his expertise, heavy machinery from his construction company, Guerra Construction Group. We will source hand tools from other leaders as required.

The current project estimate for the repair is ~$6500 to cover materials (gravel, culvert, etc). We need donations to cover the cost. The above estimate does not include other supplies e.g food, refreshments for volunteers.

In addition, we would also require volunteers to help with the various aspects of the project. We expect the project to take 4 days to complete. Safety is paramount. Since heavy machinery is involved, the construction effort has to be staffed only by adult volunteers. Youth can be used for food & refreshments.

AB 506 Update - Mandated Reporter Training Due by 2/28
|
|
Youth protection is a core value of the Golden Gate Area Council. We are continuing to update you with the latest news on California law AB 506, which adds layers of protection to our already robust BSA Youth Protection and Barriers to Abuse policies.
|
As noted in previous communications, all youth service organizations (e.g. Scout units, church groups, and sports teams) are required to meet AB 506 standards as of January 2022. Two of the AB 506 standards affect all adult volunteers, all employees, and many of our families.

- Mandated Reporter Training from the State of California (complete before February 28)
- Live Scan background check (coming soon)
Mandated Reporter Training is required in addition to our BSA Youth Protection Training. Volunteer leaders must complete the 2-hour training and upload your certificate at California Scouting by February 28, 2022.
|
A Live Scan background check (the digital version of inked fingerprinting) will also be required for all volunteers and staff in the coming weeks. Our council is finalizing the process necessary to be able to account for the completion of these background checks. We will update you again when Live Scan is available.

All California BSA councils are working together to implement these requirements consistently and in a timely fashion. Our youth members require the commitment of all adults involved in the Scouting program to keep them safe. Thank you for your dedication to this core value and for protecting our youth.

Click the “Learn More” link under Background Info Check on that page, look for the AB-506 Volunteer Process box, and complete steps 1 and 2 by February 28, 2022.

2/26 NorCal College of Commissioner Science

|
|
The NorCal College of Commissioner Science is a premier training event for Adults. It will be held on Saturday 2/26 8:00 am - 5:00 pm over Zoom. This event is targeted at Commissioners, but all registered Adult Leaders and Parents are welcome to attend. There is a rich catalog of classes that will be taught by experienced Scouters.
