Cub Scout Yo-Yo Day was a huge success!

MISSION PEAK DISTRICT CUB SCOUT YO-YO DAY

Over 80 young Cub Scouts and around 10 yo-yo performers gathered together at the Lake Elizabeth Park for one reason: Enjoying the art of yo-yoing!

Thanks to the San Francisco Spindox Yo-Yo club and Duncan Yo-Yos, the Mission Peak District was able to put together this amazing event for all scouts of all ages to come out and have a great time with this nostalgic game. Thanks to them, great yo-yo starter kits were also available for interested scouts that were equipped with official Duncan yo-yos and trick book so that the scouts could have everything they needed to be able to work on their Yo-Yo elective.

The Palms Pavilion was set-up into little requirement stations where the cub scouts would walk to and focus on achieving that task before heading to the next one. Several dozens of pins and beltloops were passed out to the scouts that finished their requirements and turned them into the registration booth.

The icing on the cake was the performance that the yo-yo club put together for the scouts. All of the little kids sat down on the grass and the professionals performed amazing tricks and stunts, so amazing that you could have heard a pin drop.

We are hoping to be able to put something like this together again for the next year. For any additional questions, feel free to reach out to the organizer at EvelynMarieLittle@gmail.com

Housekeeping after your Recharter Posts

Housekeeping after your Recharter Posts

Annual Actions Suggested for Unit Key3

  1. Check your roster to be sure it reflects all the members you think it should; i.e. did anyone get dropped at recharter time that you did not want to be dropped?
  2. Check your Be-A-Scout pin for accuracy so prospective new members can find you when they search for scouting near them.  With the changes in adult leaders during recharter, and meeting locations, it probably needs updating.
  3. Reassign any functional roles you want.  Each year the assignments get flushed on 12/31.  These functional roles are things like Key3 Delegate, COR Delegate, Training Chair, and YPT Champion.  Generous use of functional roles can help offload the work from the Committee Chair, COR, & Unit Leader.

Your online roster can be found by:

  1. Logging into my.scouting.org,
  2. Select Menu,
  3. Select the folder for your unit
  4. Select Roster

You can check your be-a-scout pin by:

  1. First checking what a prospective member sees at: Fund Scouting Near You
  2. To make changes to your pin, log into my.scouting.org,
  3. Select Menu,
  4. Select the folder for your unit
  5. Select Roster
  6. Select Unit Pin

Schedule your Order of Arrow Election

Schedule your Order of Arrow Election
The Order of the Arrow is Scouting’s National Honor Society. It recognizes those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and, through that recognition, cause others to conduct themselves in a way that warrants similar recognition, to promote camping, to develop leaders, and to crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

Each Scouts BSA troop, Venturing crew and Sea Scout ship with qualified Scouts is urged to hold an election not later than December 16, 2023. The date and place of the election are selected by you, as unit leader.

If you have no one who is eligible, please email adviser@yerbabuena.ggacbsa.org and include your unit number.

Youth Membership Qualifications
1. Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
2. At the time of their election, youth must be under the age of 21, hold the Scouts BSA First Class rank, the Venturing Discovery Award, or the Sea Scout Ordinary rank or higher, and following approval by the scoutmaster, crew advisor or Sea Scout skipper, be elected by the youth members of their unit.
3. The youth must have experienced 15 nights of camping while registered with a troop, crew or ship within the two years immediately prior to the election. The 15 nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of at least five consecutive nights of overnight camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. Only five nights of the long-term camp may be credited toward the 15-night camping requirement; the balance of the camping (10 nights) must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps of, at most, three nights each. Ship nights may be counted as camping for Sea Scouts.
4. Assistant scoutmasters who are 18, 19 or 20 years old are also considered to be youth members for the purpose of OA elections. All requirements shown above must be met for a young assistant scoutmaster to be eligible for election.

Prior to your unit’s election, the unit leader must certify the nominee’s Scout spirit and youth membership qualifications. Voting for youth candidates will be based on their spirit of brotherhood, cheerfulness (no matter how tiresome their duties), and a willingness to give unselfish and wholehearted service to others at all times.

To schedule an Order of the Arrow election for your unit, please click here:
Schedule Election

Your election should be held at a regularly scheduled unit meeting or camping experience. Every effort should be made to have 100 percent attendance of both youth and adults at this meeting. An election team from the Order of the Arrow will be on hand to conduct the election.

Please observe youth protection guidelines when emailing any youth.

If you have any questions, please contact our election coordinators listed below.

NYLT - June 11-17, 2023 - Registration Open

NYLT - June 11-17, 2023 - Registration Open
Registration for NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) is open. The course filled last year by April 15 so now is the time to look at registering. Scouts must be 13 or older and 1st Class at the start of the course. They also need to discuss their participation with their Scoutmaster before registering and get approval.

NYLT, the premier youth training course for personal development, is youth-led and simulates one month in the life of youth-led scouting. Scouts will develop valuable skills for activity planning and communicating with others. They and their patrol will learn and complete activities working towards a vision of success. Scouts are divided up into patrols, boys in all boy troops lead by boy staff members and girls in girl troops lead by girl staff members.

GGAC offers two sessions yearly, a small one in February and the larger session in June. The June course does accept more than 2 Scouts per unit, unlike the February NYLT.

For more information on NYLT and to register, visit the NYLT Webpage.

Need Your FOS Presentation Date

Need Your FOS Presentation Date
Friends of Scouting provides an important component of keeping our Council and Mission Peak operating at a high level. Total contributions are planned for over $600,000 with $45,000 being MP Family Goal.

To achieve our goal there needs to be a presentation and “Ask” for donations from the parents.   Please let us know when and how you would like to have that presentation delivered.   Even if you are planning to just do it without assistance from District, let us know so we can send you material.   We want to make sure all units have a presentation and families have an opportunity to donate to keep the program strong.

Please use this Google Form to provide the needed information to let us know your date for a Blue and Gold Ceremony or Troop Court of Honor.
