9/17 International Day of Peace at Lake Chabot

9/17 International Day of Peace at Lake Chabot

Each year the UN International Day of Peace is observed worldwide on September 21. The UN 2022 theme is “End Racism. Build Peace.” We all have a role to play in fostering peace. We can work to dismantle the structures that entrench racism in our midst. We can support movements for equality and human rights everywhere. We can speak out against hate speech – both offline and online. We can promote anti-racism through education and reparatory justice. UN website.

The Park District looks forward to celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace with you on Saturday, September 17 from 10 am to 1:30 pm at Lake Chabot Regional Park, Castro Valley. Program activities include Peace messages from our youth and faith leaders; singing, and a one-hour Peace Walk alongside Lake Chabot led by Director Dennis Waespi. A light lunch is provided.

There will be a gathering around the PEACE POLE – a symbol of hope of our Bay Area community and the global family for Peace on Earth. The Peace Pole is 12' tall, showcasing 31 languages, including Chochenyo, Nahuatl, American Sign language, and Braille. Learn more about the Lake Chabot Peace Pole.

10/15 Troop Showcase

10/15 - Troop Showcase

Troops present themselves to Arrow of Light Cub Scouts

The Troop Showcase will be held at Centerville Community Park on Saturday, October 15 from 10 AM until Noon.
  • Troops may begin arriving at 9:00 AM to set up.
  • Troops will have to bring tables, displays, and anything else that they might need for the event and will have to sweep their area to make sure it is 100% clean before leaving.
  • Parking is limited. We ask that troops unload equipment and then cars use street parking.
  • We ask that all troops check in at the registration desk during setup.
For more information contact mp-commissioner-allen@comcast.net

This is 100% separate from the October District Roundtable. The Troop Showcase is one of the very best places for Webelos IIs to start their quest for their ideal Troop. Typically, over 80% of the Troops are present at the Troop Showcase with a similar percentage of the Webelos II Dens participating in the event. Please pass the word to Troops and to Webelos II, their Den Leaders, and their parents.

Updated information for each troop will be posted on the website. This is a resource for Arrow of Light Cub Scouts and their parents in their quest to bridge into Scouts BSA.

If you have questions, please contact Henry Allen, Assistant Chair for Membership - Webelos to Scout Retention, MP-Commissioner-Allen@comcast.net

10/29 Railroad Merit Badge @ Niles Canon Railway
Attention all Train Enthusiasts!

Mission Peak District and Niles Canyon Railway have joined forces to bring together this awesome all-day Railroad Merit Badge! Our Mission Peak scouts have been invited to join the Niles Canyon Railway volunteers on October 29th starting at 8:30 am for this great opportunity to work right next to some of the most amazing trains throughout history.

There are only 25 spots available for this Merit Badge. If Scouts are interested, they are required to finish requirements 2, 4, and 7 before signing up. Those requirements must be photographed/scanned before enrolling in this merit badge. The first 25 scouts to accomplish these tasks, turn them in, pay the $25 dollar registration, and be approved will be allowed to sign up.

Please have scouts email Miss Eve directly (with a 2nd adult on CC) at EvelynMarieLittle@gmail.com for more information or to be enrolled on the INTERESTED list. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please also reach out to Eve so we can have extra help to make this fantastic opportunity a great success!
