YPT Rules Change - Zoom Classes - Status Reports

YPT Rules Change - Zoom Classes - Status Reports

GGAC adopts stricter rules for YPT

One change that affects all registered Adult Leaders in Mission Peak is the new stricter rule that the GGAC Board of Directors adopted in April 2021 regarding YPT.
At recharter time, all Adults wishing to be included must have a YPT certificate that is valid for the entire period of the new charter.

For the 2022 recharter, this translates to adults needing to have NO expiration dates in 2022 and having expiration dates on or beyond 1/1/23. Your cooperation in retaking YPT before your Unit submits their recharter information in November would be greatly appreciated.

How to retake YPT

You may retake YPT on your own schedule by accessing the course at my.scouting.org. If you prefer a classroom setting, you can attend one of our Zoom classes in November 2021. Currently, the classes are scheduled for:
  • Sat 6th, 9:00 am
  • Fri 12th, 7:00 pm
  • Sun 21st, 4:00 pm
    • Check the website calendar to confirm dates & times as well as register to attend a session.

YPT Status Report

  • Any registered adult with one of the following Positions or Functional Roles can run an up-to-date YPT Report: Key3 or Key3 Delegate or Unit Training Chair or Youth Protection Champion.
  • Brief instructions on how to run a YPT Status Report:
    • Login to my.scouting.org
    • Click Menu and Navigate to the folder for your Unit
    • Click Training Manager
    • In the lower right side of the page, under YPT (not Trained Leaders), click Report
    • Choose either Export to CSV or Export to PDF (I prefer CSV)
    • Open the downloaded file to see the status of your Unit as of midnight earlier that day
  • We will periodically post an updated file for the entire district on our YPT Page.
  • If you have questions, contact our District YPT Champion, Steve Conn, sfconn@gmail.com, 510-220-6710

    • Step 2 – Online payment for $25 plus any material fees made to GGAC.
  • Registration is not complete until you receive a confirmation email.

General Policies

  • At least one adult for each troop/crew should be present during the entire event to help manage and monitor their units.
  • Classes are registered on a first-come basis.
  • A Scout must BE PREPARED. It is the responsibility of the Scout to complete all requirements and/or prerequisites for any merit badge he chooses to work on. The counselor is there to provide assistance and additional information to the Scout concerning that merit badge.
  • Some classes may require an additional material fee.

Items to bring:

  • Water bottle: filled and clearly labeled
  • Foldable chair: clearly labeled
  • Blue card for each merit badge unless current Merit Badge Counselor has previously been assigned in Scoutbook: all personal information and registered MB info filled out
  • Any items listed in Merit Badge Class Description, i.e. MB worksheets or books, prerequisites

Indoor Etiquette

  • No food or drinks other than water bottles will be allowed.
  • Masks must be worn while inside. All Country and Fremont Unified School District COVID guidelines must be followed.

Check-in

  • Adult-in-Charge will check in ALL scouts from troop/crew and receive printed confirmation of classes and lunch tickets.

Prerequisites & Requirements

  • Some merit badges have specific age or rank requirements prior to beginning. It is the Scout responsibility to check whether the Scout is eligible to work on the merit badge prior to registering. If a Scout is not eligible for the merit badge then the Scout will be dropped from the class roster.
  • Completion of any identified prerequisites is highly suggested. Scouts will not complete the merit badge during the Merit Badge Extravaganza if these prerequisites are not completed prior to class. Scouts must bring proof of completion to class in order to get signed off on those completions.
  • Some of the Merit Badges will only be for partial completion as these MBs have extensive requirements making it impossible to fully complete the Merit Badge in a three hour period.
  • If a Scout does not complete a merit badge during the Merit Badge Extravaganza, the Scout is responsible for contacting a merit badge counselor and finishing the merit badge. Some of the Merit Badge Extravaganza counselors may be available to the Scouts who took their class in order to finish partials.
  • Scouts are expected to have read the merit badge booklet. Some merit badge booklets may be available for purchase on site from the Scout Shop.
  • Scouts are expected to bring a blue card to their class unless their instructing Merit Badge Counselor has previously been assigned in Scoutbook.

Attendance & Participation

  • Tardiness is not permitted. Scouts arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be allowed to enter the classroom. No refunds will be issued for Scouts who do not attend class due to tardiness.
  • Scouts are expected to participate in all class discussions. Scouts should ask questions, and be ready to answer questions when asked. Counselors reserve the right to call on any Scout to answer questions about the material, even if he does not volunteer.
  • Reading the MB Book and bringing a filled blue card applies to all Merit Badges.
  • Not completing prerequisites will result in a partial merit badge as these are not covered in classes.
  • Should the Scout not do the work to complete a requirement for the merit badge, it is their responsibility to complete it before it will be signed off on by the counselor. While much of the required material is presented during the workshops, that does not necessarily count as the Scout having completed it.
  • Scouts are expected to bring a pen or pencil and a notebook.

Blue cards

  • In order to receive credit for any merit badge, scouts must bring their blue card to all classes and must have completed all requirements.
  • The blue card must be filled out completely by the Scout prior to the course beginning.
  • The only exception to having a blue card is if their instructing Merit Badge Counselor has been confirmed as previously being assigned in Scoutbook.
  • No blue cards will be available at MBEx.

Schedule Changes

  • No schedule changes will be performed at the event.

Questions or concerns
