Scout Shop Locations
Currently, GGAC has a Scout Shop at our office in Pleasant Hill at 800 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.  At the writing of this post, the hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 – 5:00, and Saturday 10:30-3:00.  The store is closed for lunch daily from 1:30-2:00.  We have plans to open a store in Alameda and in Pleasanton.  The current status can be found on the  GGAC website, on the Scout Store Page - https://scoutshop.ggacbsa.org/

Depending on where you live or work, our neighboring councils also have Scout Shops:

Pack 120 Doubled In Size Using Social Media

Pack 120 Doubled In Size Using Social Media
It seems pretty obvious that the use of social media can play a major role in the recruiting success of our Mission Peak Scouting units but it's pretty clear: if you use Facebook and other key sites to promote your program, you're going to attract interested families to Scouting. Just ask the leaders of Pack 120, sponsored by Our Lady Of Guadalupe in Fremont.

According to Committee Chair Paul Schauer, that seems to be the only apparent reason on how the pack has seen a doubling in the number of new Scouts this Fall.

We've gone from 22 Scouts at the beginning of this year to over 42 and counting. Every week there seems to be a few new families interested. The local families are using the BeAScout.org website to find the pack and have no problem signing up online. We're not really going out of our way to advertise the pack, but social media has certainly made it easy to bring the families to us.

I think that our Facebook presence has helped families as they research what options are out there. We're not the biggest pack out there but we do have leaders who truly love what we do with our Scouts that makes it all the more fun.

I don't do it alone, says Paul. "From our Cubmaster to our Committee Members and from our Den Leaders to their Assistants, we all seem to work really well together. And we know how to promote the fun of Scouting! That what it's really all about. If you're not willing to share the great news of what your Scouts are doing, then you're not doing your job."

If you're looking for a little inspiration, need a few fun ideas or just want to take a peek and see what your neighboring units are doing, check out Pack 120's Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/Pack120Fremont/

10/14 Roundtable - Inexpensive Fun Activities in the Bay Area + Internet Rechartering

10/14 Roundtable - Inexpensive Fun Activities + Internet Rechartering
Join us on Thursday 10/14 for two topics.
  1. Inexpensive & Fun Activities in the Bay Area for Scouts:
    • "What are we doing this month? That sounds boooooring!! " "But we have already DONE that!!" Are these the reactions you are getting from your scouts? Are you getting frustrated trying to find fun activities for your scouts? Are you struggling to choose plans that work for everyone's budget? If so, come join us at the October Roundtable on Thursday, October 14th at 7 pm to discuss what great (and inexpensive) outings and adventures are available in the Bay area that you may not have known about! We will be discussing sports, outdoors, museums, special events and so much more! Make sure to come out with a notebook to take down notes for activities that would perfectly fit your scouts!
  2. Roll out of the new Internet Recharter Process for 2022
    • Each Unit should send at least one adult to preview the new system. We will be working in a live "sandbox" environment. The new system will go live on Friday, October 15th.

Deadline 10/14 - Recognize your Adult Leaders

Deadline 10/14 - Recognize your Adult Leaders
Each year in the fall we hold our Mission Peak District Adult Leader Recognition Event. We recognize the Adult Leaders who have performed above and beyond in their volunteer positions. We know who to recognize because you, the Parents, nominate these Leaders. We want you to take a moment now to think about who has done a particularly good job and submit the feedback now. Use this online form now or anytime in the future to record your nomination.

The 2021 nominations are due by 8:30 pm Thursday, October 14th.

If you want to know more about the various awards give out by the District, visit our Adult Recognition page.
