The current shelter in place order may be holding some people back, but certainly not Star Scout and Senior Patrol Leader Aidan Peter and his fellow Troop 152 Scouts.
After hearing that there was a Scout who was working in unison with a community service effort with St. Joseph’s Parish in Fremont, we wanted to know more.
We caught up with (by phone, of course) with Aidan and asked him just exactly what he and his peer Scouts were up to. He said that they were working with Vincent De Paul Society to sew and distribute several thousand fabric face masks and face shields to those in need.
Aidan felt he and several others Scouts from Troop 152 could help. So they pulled out their sewing machines and 3-D printers and quickly got to work. In a matter of a few weeks, they have already cranked out over 200 hand-sewn, fabric masks as well as 50-60 acrylic face shields. These items will be then be given to the the nurses in San Juaquin County, California as well as American Indians in the Navajo Nation tribe in Arizona.
When asked why he was doing this, Aidan hesitated then said, “This is a great opportunity for me and my fellow Scouts to show our Scout Spirit at time when it’s not so easy for the rest of us”. Pretty profound words spoken by a 14-year-old.
Do you have a community service effort that you’d like to share with the rest of us? if so, please send details to Steve Conn at .
