The Fremont 4th of July Parade wants YOUR unit in it!

The Fremont 4th of July Parade wants YOUR unit in it!
As a reminder, the 4th of July Parade will again be in central Fremont on Thursday morning from 9:00-12:00. The parade starts at the Fremont Main Library parking lot at Stevenson Blvd and proceeds north on Paseo Padre Pkwy to Capitol Ave.  All Cub Scouts, Scout Troops, Venturers, Scout Leaders, family and friends are invited to march in the 4th of July Parade. As is our tradition since the first parade, all Mission Peak units march together as the largest entry in the parade.

Eagle Scouts may participate in the Honor Color Guard to lead off the parade. There is time to return to your troops and join them to march the route a second time! Contact Bill Fournell 510-676-0808  if you are interested in joining the Honor Color Guard.

Please wear your uniform.  Parents and siblings can accompany their Scout. Wagons or other non-motorized items are encouraged. Individual scouts can participate. Units should bring their flags and banners.

While registration is not required, to help us prepare, please indicate whether your unit will be
participating by using this form. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd2QVcMshYngy_QjB3H7f9iiv6kzcF0YyjHK4uqYj-2H8KzzA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Super Successful Cub Scout Day Camp at Ardenwood Farm!

Super Successful Cub Scout Day Camp at Ardenwood Farm!
Chickens, Turkeys, and Goats, oh my! These were just some of the animals that the over 70 Cub Scouts got a chance to enjoy this past week at the annual Mission Peak Cub Scout Day Camp at Ardenwood Historic Farm. The elementary aged scouts even helped with the farm animals by cleaning out their pens as well as grinding up corn and feeding it to them. On top of that, the scouts had seven other stations all around the site including Arts/Crafts, Safety, Scouting, STEM, Games, Nature, and Special Projects. Ardenwood Historic Farm has been a host of these special scout memories for the last four years and they are happy to be a part of it.

This year’s camp theme, “Onto the Races” was incorporated with many obstacle courses, friendly competition and tons of NASCAR entertainment. But it was not all fun and games at camp the whole week. The volunteers made sure to focus on important skills such as first aid training for the older scouts and knife safety by learning to correctly chop up vegetables for homemade salsa. They even focused on fire safety by making yummy smores. “Scouting is all about giving little kids an opportunity to learn life skills while having tons of fun and making friends,” explains Fernanda Ruiz, the Mission Peak District Executive. And at the end of the day, that ain’t a “baaaaa-ad” idea.

Huge thank you to T132 for their help at the Rotary Knot Tying Event!

Huge thank you to T132 for their help at the Rotary Knot Tying Event!
Troop 132 participated in the knot-tying demonstration organized by the Rotary district. The scouts from the troop built an A-Frame and also taught about 60 Rotarians some of the basic knots. In the end, most of the Rotarians were able to tie a square knot, bowline, and clove hitch. Some of them even got their hitches done. Scouts explained the basic knots and their purposes. They also showed some of these knots form the basic building blocks for more building blocks like lashings. We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this event. Scouting and Rotary organizations are spiritually aligned on our community service goals. We look forward to more opportunities to work with different Rotarians on service projects.
