Scouting for Food is coming up! Get your units ready!

Scouting for Food is coming up! Get your units ready!
Thanks for all you have done to prepare for the upcoming Scouting for Food Drive. Last year, our Mission Peak District blew the other Districts away with food donations and let's do it again this year!

The need has never been greater – one in four residences of our communities suffers from food insecurity. In the true spirit of Scouting, Scouting for Food affords our scouts, scouters and others the opportunity to provide meaningful service.

The traditional pick up of food donations from homes will be on Saturday, November 11, with door hangers placed in neighborhoods throughout the Golden Gate Area Council the week before.

Besides the always important food collections, remember we also need to publicize and encourage monetary donations for those who may find that more convenient or who may want to give more. We are calling on scouts, scouters, scouting families, friends and community partners to help spread the word. Please fire up the troops and packs and as many scouters and community partners as possible to enlist their assistance in sharing this information. If you have any questions or need assistance with this, reach out to Scouting for Food representative, Don Uriu at .

Many thanks. Together we really can make a difference.

Troop 199 puts together a Planet Kindness Station to trade items with others

Troop 199 puts together a Planet Kindness Station to trade items with others
Some years ago, before Covid-19, Deven Alimchandani, scouting leader, counselor and volunteer of Troop 199, got amazed by trading posts at Del Valle, Camp Royaneh, and Disneyworld. Considering the urgency of climate change, he decided to introduce Planet Kindness Station at T199 meeting on September 4th 2024 and coined it as PKS199, with hope it will inspire scouts and families. While shopping for troop advancement, from San Leandro, Pleasanton, San Jose, Deven would also personally buy books/goods to support stores and share with others to learn and appreciate scouting program. Weekly he decided to pass on the brand new or gently used scouting items with others.

PKS199 kindness station is like kindness trading post, but nothing is stored and there is sale or money transactions. Anyone can bring new or gently used items and give it away free to anyone that needs or scouts could exchange books or item. Nothing is stored or managed, it's a self-serve station and the troop guide or anyone in troop can put a PKS sign on a temporary desk. The purpose of this idea is to inspire kindness, reduce waste, and help others in need. Some scouts like to upgrade their own gear, some sell their older items on ecommerce websites. Alternatively, this could be one way to give away the gently used items and possibly buy new gear to support scouting too. PKS199 has been working most weeks little new and used items are being passed, keeping hygiene and safety into consideration.

Deven is grateful to Troop199 and family, for the cooperation, to motivate scouts on the acts of kindness.

Trunk or Treat "Spooky" event with Pack 110!

Trunk or Treat "Spooky" event with Pack 110!
Is it ever too early to celebrate Halloween? Not for Pack 110!

We joined forces with Forestpark Elementary School for an unforgettable “Trunk or Treat” event. Our pack’s adult leaders and cubs transformed an SUV into a spooky yet cozy camping setup—complete with a skeleton camper keeping watch by the ‘fire’. The smiles and laughter were proof of a job well done by everyone who pitched in.A huge thank you to all who came out to make this event a great success! We love building these connections and spreading some Halloween cheer in our community.

A huge shout-out to Troop 132 & 203 for their Camp Wente volunteer work!

A huge shout-out to Troop 132 & 203 for their Camp Wente volunteer work!
This past weekend, Fremont Troop 132 and Oakland Troop 203 went up to Camp Wente and helped get our precious summer camp looked up and ready for winter. They spent the weekend carefully folding up all the tarp tents, arranging the proper equipment and storing everything for the upcoming colder months.

Thanks to Troops and volunteers like this, we can continue to offer great activities and campsites for our future scouters. When you get a chance, check out their pictures from this hard-working group.

A huge thank you to all those who participated!
