Are you a young person who is curious about working in healthcare? Our Medical Explorers Program gives ages 15-21 a chance to explore the possibilities. You do not need to be a Scout to participate — Exploring is a separate career-focused program open to youth and young adults ages 15-21.

Come learn more about Medical Explorers Post 539 and meet others who are interested in healthcare careers. Throughout the year, participants have opportunities to learn about different medical specialties and healthcare services through guest speakers, hands-on activities, tours, and other experiences.
|
Topics and activities may include anesthesiology, rehabilitation and respiratory services, plastic surgery, oncology, pharmacology, nursing, hospital labs, the Cath Lab, medical imaging, patient experience, and more.*
|
The Open House is free, so come check it out and see if the program is right for you. Membership is required to participate in future meetings and activities, and applications will be available at the Open House.

10/3 - Save the date for the 2nd annual Heroes in the Community Event
|
|
Saturday, October 3, 2026 - 10am to 1pm
|
Silliman Center, 6800 Mowry Avenue, Newark, CA
|
The FREE event invites kids from Newark, Fremont, and Union City to meet “real-life heroes” — from public officials to first responders, utility workers, and nonprofit leaders — in a fun, interactive way. Scouts receive a “Bingo-like” card with stamps at each hero booth; collecting all stamps can earns a prize. This is also a great opportunity to get many requirements written off in your scouting requirements, like meeting police officers and firefighters, shaking hands with veterans, etc.

9/25 to 9/27 - Mission Peak Fall Camporee Weekend Registration is Open!
|
|
It’s that time of year again! Mission Peak District is excited to announce Fall Camporee 2026 and looks forward to bringing Scouts from across the district together for another fun-filled weekend of Scouting, friendly competition, and outdoor adventure.
|
This year’s Camporee will be held at Rancho Los Mochos in Livermore, CA, from September 25–27, 2026. The theme is Spider-Man & the Avengers, and our youth staff has been working hard to put together an exciting Camporee experience.
|
Scouts will have opportunities to participate in Scout skills, range and target sports, traditional Camporee activities, and fun themed events. We’re looking forward to another memorable weekend for Scouts and Scouters alike!
|
Registration starts now and is by Troop only.

After the initial Troop registration is completed, the registration contact will be able to add additional Scouts and adults.

We encourage Scoutmasters and Committee Chairs to share this opportunity with their Scouts and families and register early.

We plan to hold the Leaders’ Meeting on August 30, 2026. The Leaders’ Guide will be published during the first week of September and will include additional information about the schedule, camping logistics, meals, activities, medical forms, and other important details.
|
We are also looking for adult volunteers to join the Camporee staff and help create a great experience for our youth.
|
We are especially looking for help with:

Logistics & Support: Friday and Sunday traffic control and kitchen support.
|

Events Oversight: Two adults at the tomahawk range, plus a couple of adults circulating among the Saturday field events to help things run smoothly, identify safety concerns, and address issues as they arise.
|
Volunteers supporting event oversight must remain impartial and fair to all Scouts and patrols.

Building on Last Year’s Success
|
We’re excited to build on the success of last year’s Camporee, which brought together approximately 475 participants, including 13 AOLs. Our youth leadership team is already hard at work planning another wonderful Camporee for Mission Peak District.
|

Get to know Indra Manickam, our new Mission Peak District Executive!
|
|
Mission Peak District is pleased to announce that Indra Manickam has joined Golden Gate Area Council as our District Executive. Indra has extensive experience as a scout parent and troop volunteer. (Attached is a detailed account of her background.) She will be our professional contact for assistance and resources from council. Indra has started her orientation and training, and will take on more responsibilities as she gains experience. She is already busy unloading cases of popcorn.

Indra holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and has built an accomplished career in the technology industry, bringing extensive experience across highly innovative and demanding sectors, including Electric Vehicles (EV), Telecommunications, and Healthcare. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a talent for solving complex challenges. Her diverse professional background and collaborative leadership make her an outstanding addition to the Scouting America leadership team.
|
Beyond her professional achievements, Indra is deeply committed to Scouting and youth development. As a dedicated volunteer with Troop 908, she has played an active role in supporting youth advancement, mentoring Scouts as they progress through the ranks, and helping create meaningful opportunities for personal growth and leadership. She has also been a steadfast supporter of the troop's fundraising initiatives, volunteering countless hours during annual popcorn sales to help ensure Scouts have the resources to participate in outdoor adventures, leadership training, and high-quality Scouting programs.
|
Indra's passion for service extends well beyond Scouting. She previously served as Treasurer of the Fallon Chess Club, where she helped promote youth engagement through educational enrichment, and she continues to
|
be an active volunteer at the Hindu Community and Cultural Center (HCCC) in Livermore. Her ongoing dedication to community service reflects a lifelong commitment to empowering young people, fostering leadership, and giving back to the community.
|
Scouting is truly a family commitment for Indra. Her husband, Balasubramanian Chinnappan, serves as the Scoutmaster of Troop 908, and together they have cultivated a home centered on service, leadership, and the values of Scouting. Their elder son, Sachin Balasubramanian, graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with a degree in Chemistry, while their younger son, Nithilan Balasubramanian, is an incoming eighth grader and an enthusiastic Star Scout in Troop 908, continuing the family's proud Scouting tradition.
|
When she is not working or volunteering, Indra enjoys spending time outdoors and embracing nature. She is an avid hiker who finds joy and inspiration on scenic trails, and she loves traveling to explore new countries, experience diverse cultures, and broaden her perspective through meaningful adventures around the world.
