Great Eagle Scout Project at the Ohlone Humane Society!

Great Eagle Scout Project at the Ohlone Humane Society!
Ohlone Humane Society is now one step closer to being available to more people thanks to Sohan, BSA Troop 449, & volunteers.

His Eagle Scout project was to revamp a garden pathway from the pergola and further extend it to the nearby road. This activity took several days and several dozen helpers. As stated by the Eagle Scout Sohan, “The idea for the path was to redo the old path that was already there and to continue the path towards the road. We started by clearing all the weeds in the old path and by clearing out an area for the extension. We then removed all the old edging and laid all the new edging as well as put in the weed fabric. Next we put in the gravel as a base layer and lastly put in the dg (decomposed granite) as the final layer on top. Throughout the process we leveled and compacted the path to make it more stable and smooth.”

1/31 - Help needed for the Indoor Rally!

1/31 - Help needed for the Indoor Rally!
After many years of running Indoor Rally, Jeff Airth has stepped down as the event leader.  We are very thankful for all the years of hard work and dedication Jeff has placed on this special event. As of today, we have confirmed the reservation of the Holy Spirit Gym for Friday, January 31st.

Right now we are requesting volunteers to help us continue this great BSA scout tradition in the future. Jeff has provided guide materials to pass out to the unit leaders and he said that he is available if you would like to contact him, and he can forward the scoring documents used in the past as well as offer any other guidance. We are going to also need help with publication as well as running the event.

If this is something that you would be interested in, please contact Steve Rodriggs at .

Troop 199 puts together a Planet Kindness Station to trade items with others

Troop 199 puts together a Planet Kindness Station to trade items with others
Some years ago, before Covid-19, Deven Alimchandani, scouting leader, counselor and volunteer of Troop 199, got amazed by trading posts at Del Valle, Camp Royaneh, and Disneyworld. Considering the urgency of climate change, he decided to introduce Planet Kindness Station at T199 meeting on September 4th 2024 and coined it as PKS199, with hope it will inspire scouts and families. While shopping for troop advancement, from San Leandro, Pleasanton, San Jose, Deven would also personally buy books/goods to support stores and share with others to learn and appreciate scouting program. Weekly he decided to pass on the brand new or gently used scouting items with others.

PKS199 kindness station is like kindness trading post, but nothing is stored and there is sale or money transactions. Anyone can bring new or gently used items and give it away free to anyone that needs or scouts could exchange books or item. Nothing is stored or managed, it's a self-serve station and the troop guide or anyone in troop can put a PKS sign on a temporary desk. The purpose of this idea is to inspire kindness, reduce waste, and help others in need. Some scouts like to upgrade their own gear, some sell their older items on ecommerce websites. Alternatively, this could be one way to give away the gently used items and possibly buy new gear to support scouting too. PKS199 has been working most weeks little new and used items are being passed, keeping hygiene and safety into consideration.

Deven is grateful to Troop199 and family, for the cooperation, to motivate scouts on the acts of kindness.
