Scouting for Food is coming up this weekend! Get your units ready!
Thanks for all you have done to prepare for the upcoming Scouting for Food Drive. Last year, our Mission Peak District blew the other Districts away with food donations and let's do it again this year!
The need has never been greater – one in four residences of our communities suffers from food insecurity. In the true spirit of Scouting, Scouting for Food affords our scouts, scouters and others the opportunity to provide meaningful service.
The traditional pick up of food donations from homes will be on Saturday, November 11, with door hangers placed in neighborhoods throughout the Golden Gate Area Council the week before.
Besides the always important food collections, remember we also need to publicize and encourage monetary donations for those who may find that more convenient or who may want to give more. We are calling on scouts, scouters, scouting families, friends and community partners to help spread the word. Please fire up the troops and packs and as many scouters and community partners as possible to enlist their assistance in sharing this information.
Many thanks. Together we really can make a difference.

The delayed 2024 Fall Camporee was a success with 19 Troops, 52 patrols, 311 scout participants, 62 adults and about 30 youth staff. Patrols participated in 15 events in the morning and in the afternoon there were troop activities of Campwide Relay (6 events), Realistic First aid and Pioneering.
A total of 75 ribbons were awarded with Troop 273 taking 1st place, 2nd Place to 2119 and 3rd to 2220. Troop 2123 took first place in the Desert Cookoff. Congratulations to everyone.
Thank you to all the adults that volunteered their time that greatly helped make the camporee a success. Tom and Brian Kacinski prepared super meals for the staff – thank you.

1/31 - Help needed for the Indoor Rally!
After many years of running Indoor Rally, Jeff Airth has stepped down as the event leader. We are very thankful for all the years of hard work and dedication Jeff has placed on this special event. As of today, we have confirmed the reservation of the Holy Spirit Gym for Friday, January 31st.
Right now we are requesting volunteers to help us continue this great BSA scout tradition in the future. Jeff has provided guide materials to pass out to the unit leaders and he said that he is available if you would like to contact him, and he can forward the scoring documents used in the past as well as offer any other guidance. We are going to also need help with publication as well as running the event.

11/23 - Tree Planting Volunteers needed in Newark Silliman Center!
It has been a very busy fall for Urban Forest Friends, with three tree planting events and 40 new trees! Thank you to all of you for coming out as a community to plant and care for trees.
On Saturday, November 23rd, 9am-noon, Urban Forest Friends be planting 20 more trees around Newark Silliman Center/Sportsfield Park. Trees are an investment in our future, providing mitigation against the growing effects of climate change, serving as natural air purifiers, and improving our mental health. No previous experience necessary! We'll bring all the tools and supplies - just bring yourself, some water, and wear sturdy closed-toe shoes. Must be 14+ to volunteer.

Troop 199 puts together a Planet Kindness Station to trade items with others
Some years ago, before Covid-19, Deven Alimchandani, scouting leader, counselor and volunteer of Troop 199, got amazed by trading posts at Del Valle, Camp Royaneh, and Disneyworld. Considering the urgency of climate change, he decided to introduce Planet Kindness Station at T199 meeting on September 4th 2024 and coined it as PKS199, with hope it will inspire scouts and families. While shopping for troop advancement, from San Leandro, Pleasanton, San Jose, Deven would also personally buy books/goods to support stores and share with others to learn and appreciate scouting program. Weekly he decided to pass on the brand new or gently used scouting items with others.
PKS199 kindness station is like kindness trading post, but nothing is stored and there is sale or money transactions. Anyone can bring new or gently used items and give it away free to anyone that needs or scouts could exchange books or item. Nothing is stored or managed, it's a self-serve station and the troop guide or anyone in troop can put a PKS sign on a temporary desk. The purpose of this idea is to inspire kindness, reduce waste, and help others in need. Some scouts like to upgrade their own gear, some sell their older items on ecommerce websites. Alternatively, this could be one way to give away the gently used items and possibly buy new gear to support scouting too. PKS199 has been working most weeks little new and used items are being passed, keeping hygiene and safety into consideration.
Deven is grateful to Troop199 and family, for the cooperation, to motivate scouts on the acts of kindness.
